For a position as a PhD Candidate, the goal is a completed doctoral education up to an obtained doctoral degree.
The position is linked to the project PREFERENCE (a project partially funded by the Research Council of Norway and in collaboration with other Norwegian partners). Big data, Internet of Things (IoT), digital twins and artificial intelligence (AI) represent key enablers of the digital transformation impacting several domains. The main objectives of the project include the development and the integration of signal processing and machine learning methodologies aiming at decision support and system design. Use cases for the project PREFERENCE are related to Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). The PhD candidate will have the opportunity to be affiliated with the IoT@NTNU and with the Norwegian Open AI lab, and to collaborate with research scientists from international partner institutions.
The focus of the PhD contribution to the project is related to “Transient Modeling and Uncertainty Analysis for Digital Twins of CCS Systems”. The activities related to this position include: (i) time-series transient modeling and monitoring of start-up and shut-down filling process in CCS systems; and (ii) defining a simulated environment based on data-driven machine learning for water/CO2 transferability and full-scale design optimization.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with Regulations on terms of employment for positions such as postdoctoral fellow, Phd candidate, research assistant and specialist candidate and Regulations concerning the degrees of Philosophiae Doctor (PhD) and Philosodophiae Doctor (PhD) in artistic research national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant
• Experience in sensor networks, IoT systems, digital twins, CCS systems.

As a PhD candidate (code 1017) you are normally paid from gross NOK 532 200 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
The period of employment is 4 years (with 25 % teaching duties).
Appointment to a PhD position requires that you are admitted to the PhD program in Electronics and Telecommunications within three months of employment, and that you participate in an organized PhD program during the employment period.
The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.
