Data Platform Engineer

At Vipps MobilePay we make it very, very easy to pay and get paid. We have removed cash, cards and hassle every day since we came to be. Our apps, Vipps and MobilePay, are used by everyone and are the most loved brands in Norway and Denmark respectively. We have more than 11 million users and 400 000 shops and web shops in the Nordics, and are growing fast into Finland.

In 2023, our company mission has been to merge Vipps and MobilePay into one company and one platform for partners and merchants. Going into 2024, we can deliver the dazzling user experiences we’re known for faster than ever. Data and AI will enable new user experiences, and we are looking for a Data Platform Engineer to join the data platform team.

About the Data Platform team:

In the Data Platform team, we build and operate a collection of data platform services that connect data consumers with data producers. Our goal is to make data & analytics more secure, simpler and more sustainable. We get our energy from seeing our users doing great things with data.

Our own journey in 2023 has been to sunset legacy data warehouses from both Vipps and MobilePay and build a self service Data Platform based on Azure Databricks, Terraform, dbt and a whole lot of yaml configuration. This year we launched:

· A shared analytics environment

· Push data integration tooling for SQL and event data sources

· Self service data publishing and purpose based access controls

Our team currently consists of two data engineers and a platform engineer based in Oslo. We’re looking to add another platform engineer to the team so that we can advance in both DataOps (e.g. automated data quality monitoring) and MLOps (e.g. model and data science application hosting).

About the Platform Engineer role:

Your typical month will be a mix of

· Doing development in Terraform and Python to scale, extend or build new data platform services

· Doing design work to ensure that we build the right things

· Helping data platform users to design and implement their integrations to and applications on top of the data platform

· Taking your turn to be on call

We’re looking for candidates who have a solid engineering foundation, experience with data infrastructure and a contagious excitement for what’s possible if we do data better than we did it yesterday. Some of these things might describe you:

· 5+ years of experience in data, software, platform, or ML engineering

· Bachelor’s degree in engineering, math, finance, sciences, or similar quantitative field

· Strong technical communication skills and ability to connect with developers working on different projects

· Experience building tools and infrastructure for developers or analysts

· Interest in modern data technologies, and familiarity with the data stack of a public cloud

· Familiarity with IAM and auth patterns for services

· Knowledge of patterns for streaming, storing, replicating, transforming and serving data

· Ability to balance long-term progress with short-term fixes
