Tech Lead

Do you want to be responsible for the technical development in our IDP team?

Do you want to join us in building digital solutions used by millions of Norwegians? Are you also interested in leading the technical development in one of our teams? If so, this could be a great opportunity for you!

At Coop, we craft forward-thinking digital products and services and are now strengthening our team with a Tech Lead who will play a vital role in this. We strive to challenge the status quo every day, leveraging technology and data to create smarter and more efficient shopping experiences – allowing our customers to spend time on more important matters. Our deliveries vary from apps and authentication solutions to data products.

As our new Tech Lead, you will have the overall responsibility for the technical development in our IDP team and get the opportunity to solve interesting and complex problems using modern technologies. The IDP team is responsible for developing and maintaining cutting-edge solutions that ensure secure and seamless authentication, authorization, and identity management across our software ecosystem for internal services and customers. Are you ready to take on a key role in shaping IDP services at Coop?

We believe your day to day will look somewhat like this:

  • You will lead the technical development and guide how the IDP team works, while having a hands-on approach to developing and improving functionality.
  • Be actively involved in product functionality planning, roadmap decisions and development processes.
  • Engage with product managers, external users and other stakeholders and bridge the gap between business requirements and technical feasibility.
  • Design, develop and implement high-quality solutions for the IDP on Coop’s application platform.
  • Build and improve a developer self-service portal that will enable teams to provision and manage their own authentication-related configuration and resources.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving non-trivial issues reported by internal and external users.
  • Champion good security practices to the wider organization and our partners.
  • Contribute improvements to shared tools and services used by the wider engineering community.

A typical IDP service at Coop is often built using:

  • OpenAPI and protocol Buffers to define APIs.
  • REST and gRPC as communications protocols.
  • Source code written in Go/Golang and TypeScript.
  • OCI Image and Docker for packaging.
  • Our Kubernetes-based Application Platform in GCP.
  • Infrastructure defined with Terraform.

We think you have some of the following:

  • Proven leadership-skills from previous roles.
  • You are a strong problem-solver, thriving when tackling complex software engineering tasks.
  • A pragmatic approach to languages, having knowledge of open-source languages such as Python, TypeScript, Node, or similar.
  • Experience writing reliable services in Go or similar languages.
  • Solid experience with OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect (OIDC).
  • The ability to take initiative and responsibility within your area of expertise.
  • You thrive working in small, cross-functional teams but also like to work independently.
  • Solid experience with operating in a cloud environment, working with microservice-based architecture in AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Experience with designing, developing, and implementing APIs.
  • A strong DevOps mindset with good knowledge of tools and technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
  • Great collaboration skills.
  • Awareness of Strong Customer Authentication / PSD2.

We believe you also will need this:

  • 5+ years of experience with backend software development.
  • Higher education within relevant fields (BSc, MSc or similar) or relevant working experience.
  • The ability to communicate fluently in English (both oral and written).

We can offer you:

  • Access to the most exciting technologies and data to solve complex and important tasks.
  • You’ll be part of an ambitious and diverse team where you get to impact the way of working and contribute to organizational guidelines.
  • Excellent opportunities for personal and professional development (e.g., conferences, training, time to work on own projects/upskilling, etc.).
  • Modern office spaces at our HQ at Grorud with high degree of flexibility on working hours and location.
  • Gear and equipment (Mac/Windows) are provided when you begin your adventure with us.
  • Competitive compensation package in addition to good pension and insurance schemes.
  • Other benefits like mobile phone and internet coverage, company cabins, and discounts in all Coop stores.
