About the position

The IT Department at the University of Oslo (USIT) provides infrastructure and IT services/solutions to the University of Oslo, the university and college sector in Norway and more. We are one of the country's largest IT professional environments with just over 350 permanent employees and work with a wide range of exciting technical solutions based on forward-thinking technology. The position is a two-year project position and is part of the Section for Scientific Computing Services (BT), Division for Research, Dissemination and Education. The section has 24 employees and you will become part of a cross-disciplinary agile team with high competence in everything from design to development and operation.

The Norwegian Artificial Intelligence Cloud (NAIC) is a five-year project with three years of funding support from the Research Council of Norway. The project started April 2023 and aims to establish a powerful AI/ML infrastructure in Norway, which will promote AI education, research, and innovation. NAIC provides access to High-Performance Computing (HPC) resources and support to researchers, PhD students, instructors, entrepreneurs, startups, and SMEs interested in exploring AI methodologies, as well as developing advanced AI models and algorithms.

Work tasks

  • Development and maintenance of advanced frontend and backend systems using technology such as React, React Native, Node.js, Next.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, PostgreSQL, and other relevant technologies.
  • Development and maintenance of CI/CD stacks consisting of Docker, Kubernetes (OKD), & GitHub Actions.
  • Develop responsive web applications and mobile apps for iOS and Android.
  • Close collaboration with other developers and UX in the product team to optimize user experience and ensure system integration and compatibility.
  • Proactive participation in the full software development cycle, including customer contact, design, implementation, testing, and support.
  • Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of work processes in the team through regular reflection and discussion.
  • Collaborate with the product owner, scrum master, UX/UI designers, and other developers to ensure the delivery of high-quality products in line with the project's goals and timelines.
  • Continuous learning and updating knowledge on the latest technological trends and industry standards.
  • Guidance and training of apprentices and junior developers during periods.

Qualification Requirements

  • The position requires relevant education at bachelor level, preferably in IT subjects with a focus on programming. Practical experience in the field may replace the educational requirement.

    At least 3 years of experience as a full-stack developer

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Desirable skills/experience:Experience working in agile teams, scrum, and kanban
    Documented knowledge about security and privacy
    Competence in the AI field, experience with developing AI services
    Familiar with IAM / OpenID
    Knowledge about universal design
    Has functioned as, or previously held a role as, a system architect

The position is temporary until end of the NAIC project in April 2026 and is paid as a head engineer (SKO 1087) in a salary range between NOK 615,700 - 692,400, depending on experience and competence.
