The Institute of Basic Medical Sciences consists of academic departments and units that pursue research and education within basic medical science. The developer will work in a multidisciplinary environment at the Neural Systems laboratory (NeSys). The laboratory contributes to the Atlas services and has a leading role in the Data Services of the EBRAINS Research Infrastructure - the European distributed research infrastructure for brain and brain-inspired research (https://ebrains.eu). Current developments are supported by the EU funded EBRAINS 2.0 project. EBRAINS Atlas services and Data Services aim to become primary research infrastructure services for brain atlasing, as well as for sharing, integrating, and analysing diverse and multiscale neuroscience data from the research community, particularly in Europe. EBRAINS was included in the European roadmap of research infrastructures (ESFRI) in 2021.
In the EBRAINS research infrastructure, the Neural Systems Laboratory (www.med.uio.no/nesys) is responsible for 1) creating new standards for brain atlases through development and maintenance of resources and tools for atlas-based integration and analysis of experimental rodent brain data, and 2) providing services for FAIR neuroscience data and data processing. The full-stack developer to be recruited will primarily be part of the team for brain atlas services.

The full-stack developer to be employed will have specific responsibilities for establishing front- and backend solutions for providing a use-friendly environment for online interactive analysis of 2D and 3D brain images served from the EBRAINS research infrastructure. As a full-stack developer you will continue developments of an online service for histological brain image analysis using reference brain atlases, in close collaboration with neuroscientists and other software developers on our team (the QUINT workflow, https://www.ebrains.eu/brain-atlases/analysis/labelled-features-analysis). The service is to be integrated with an online platform for brain research, the EBRAINS research infrastructure, with the goal to offer a seamless information exchange between the tools developed, and to create a user-friendly one-platform experience. The developer will contribute to the architecture, development, and maintenance of the service, and will liaise with the EBRAINS central technical coordination team and with clients to understand detailed requirements.
We are looking for a full-stack developer with some years of experience in the development, deployment and management of online services running on cloud environments, who enjoys working in an international and interactive environment. Candidates must have a Bachelor (BSc) or higher degree in computer engineering, computer science, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience, as well as experience with:
The successful candidate will be a good team player with excellent coding skills, positive and pro-active attitude, and good abilities for team-based software development. Experience in working in an academic and / or multicultural / multidisciplinary environment is an advantage. Emphasis will be attributed to individual suitability for the project.
