We are currently recruiting a team member for the role of Data Scientist, Bioinformatics. The Data Science team is responsible for structuring, organizing, processing, and interpreting data generated by Marimetrics’ products and platforms at every technology stack level. Members of the Data Science team work closely with scientists, electrical and software engineers across, both the company and a network of international partners, to deliver high-quality products on ambitious development timelines. Successful applicants will lead and take responsibility for the design, development, and deployment of robust algorithms operating on high-dimensional data streams produced by Marimetrics’ products.
The successful candidate’s specific contributions and responsibilities will include:
Development of concepts for structuring and representing data across diagnostic hardware and software products,
development of modules and libraries for handling and processing data,
algorithm development,
hardware and software testing and verification process development,
supporting special R&D initiatives,
processing data and metadata generated by Marimetrics’ products, and
development of documentation in collaboration with Marimetrics’ software engineering team.
The ideal team member will possess the following basic qualifications:
Programming proficiency in C, Python, and Javascript,
proficiency with MATLAB,
proficiency in leveraging APIs to applications serving chemical, biochemical, and genomic data in a distributed Linux environment,
a sound understanding of molecular biology concepts,
excellent knowledge of machine learning techniques,
a high degree of initiative, and autonomy while also engaging in scientific collaboration, and
excellent written and oral communication skills.
The following attributes and qualifications describe the ideal candidate:
You have a Ph.D. or MSc in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, or a similar field,
you have a strong scientific publication record,
you enjoy devising creative approaches to manipulating and interpreting data in order to uncover new insights into biological problems,
you have demonstrated competence in developing efficient workflows for making sense of high dimensional data (e.g. single cell sequence assays, genotype or WGS data, proteomics data, etc.),
you have demonstrated competence in languages such as Python or MATLAB for bioinformatics analyses,
you are intensely curious about aquatic microbiology and eager to contribute to scientific efforts focused on furthering our understanding of microbial ecology in aquaculture and other industrial systems, and
you are able to distill and share complex results, both orally and through written contributions, to both technical and non-technical audiences.
