The Faculty of Technology, Natural Sciences, and Maritime Sciences has a vacancy for a full-time temporary post in Systems Engineering from 1 September 2023. Employment for two years, with possible extension within the project timeframe.
The position relates to the Department of Science and Industry Systems and reports to the Head of Department. The place of work is Campus Kongsberg.
The research is associated with a European project, entitled AI4HyDrop, funded by the Horizon Europe under the SESAR Joint Undertaking programme. The goal of the project is to delineate, develop and evaluate concepts of operations and a set of enabling technologies aimed at insuring the safe separation of drones (from each other’s and from Manned aviation) in the U-space environment with a special focus on densely populated areas. The research goal aims to investigate how the U-Space can be safely defined by designing an airspace management structure, automatic allocation for drone’s flight routes using AI, Traffic safety, methods for drone’s deconfliction, etc.
The candidate will work in close collaboration with the project leader at USN. The work will give the candidate a unique experience in working in Europeans projects. Candidates that are interested in research at EU level are encouraged to apply.
Applicants must have a master’s degree in systems engineering, or computer science, business, logistics, aerospace engineering. The applicant must have gained the degree within the commencement date.
The candidate must have the ability to work independently and at the same time have the motivation to share knowledge and take part in teamwork. Personal suitability for the position will be emphasised.

The position as junior researcher (1108 Forsker) is placed in the state salary scale at levels (NOK 516 800 – 646 000) depending on seniority. A statutory contribution will be made from the employee’s salary to the state pension plan.
Salary grade according to seniority and competence. Statutory amounts for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted from salary.
The person appointed must comply with the laws, regulations and agreements that apply at any given time to the post.
